The ASEAN Magazine May 2022: Promoting Decent Work and Protecting Informal Workers

The ASEAN magazine’s latest issue on informal economies highlights the multi-dimensional approaches needed to help provide decent work to informal workers and transition them to formal employment. This issue is now available at https://asean.org/serial/the-asean-volume-may-2022-issue-21/.
 
This issue features an interview with Indonesia’s Manpower Minister and Secretary-General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Development and Cooperatives. We delve into the multi-dimensional approach to protecting informal workers, addressing their social security needs, improving their skills, and strengthening MSMEs. Tourism is one of the industries hit hardest by the pandemic. The Philippine Tourism Secretary talks about the sector’s strategies for recovery. Also included are stories from tourism workers, small business owners, and gig workers who are slowly trying to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
