Webinar on The Global Innovation Index 2021

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the ASEAN Secretariat are organising a regional webinar focused on the the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2021 on the themes of ASEAN results and using the index as a driver to track innovation. The event will take place on February 24, 2022, from 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm (Jakarta time/GMT+7) on the Zoom platform.

The GII 2021 takes the pulse of recent global innovation trends and ranks the innovation ecosystem performance of 132 economies, including all 10 ASEAN Member States. The Index highlights innovation strengths and weaknesses and particular gaps in innovation metrics in each economy. The aim of the Global Innovation Index is to provide insightful data on innovation and, in turn, to assist economies in evaluating their innovation performance and making informed innovation policy considerations.

Topic 1

Introduction to the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2021

 

-       How do you measure innovation?

-       Findings from the 2021 GII – how did innovation respond during the pandemic?

-       How can policy makers use the GII

Topic 2

ASEAN Countries Using the GII to Change Policy and Enhance Innovation Capacity

 

-       A number of ASEAN countries have embraced the GII and use it as a key tool in developing new policies to stimulate innovation.

-       This topic will feature mini-case studies of countries explaining why and how they use the GII.

Topic 3

Spotlight on ASEAN Performance in the 2021 GII

 

-       In this topic, co-author of the GII, Mr. Sacha Wunsch-Vincent, will share the data from each ASEAN Country and highlight their strengths and weaknesses in terms of innovation performance.

-       This content will be invaluable to a wide range of industry sectors in order to identify the policy “levers” that can be adjusted to improve innovative performance and output.
